Patrons are responsible for:

  1. Maintaining the security and condition of borrowed materials and equipment.
  2. Returning materials by the applicable due date.
  3. Monitoring their library account for due dates, recalls, holds, and account restrictions.
  4. Returning specialized equipment directly to the appropriate service desk when required.
  5. Reporting lost, damaged, or missing materials to Library staff as soon as possible.
  6. Contacting the Library promptly if they believe a fine, block, or other account restriction has been applied incorrectly.

Exceptions and Appeals

The Library recognizes that individual circumstances may affect a patron's ability to return materials on time. Questions concerning fines, lost materials, account blocks, or other borrowing restrictions should be directed to Library staff for review or by emailing libhelp@newschool.edu.

The Library may review individual circumstances and determine an appropriate resolution consistent with Library policy and applicable institutional requirements.

Policy Administration

The New School Library reserve the right to modify loan periods, fines, borrowing privileges, and procedures as operational needs, collection requirements, technology, or institutional policies change.
