About Reserves

The New School Libraries provide access to course content including articles, books, statistical sources, videos, scores, etc. through Canvas or any of The New School Libraries’ locations.

Placing materials on reserve ensures that:

  • Materials are assessed for fair use and used in accordance with copyright law;
  • Content meets accessibility standards;
  • Access is stable and secure;
  • Non-tuition costs are limited for students.

Spring 2025

The New School Libraries is dedicated to providing you and your students access to academic resources and helping you plan for the Spring 2025 semester and beyond. Most types of material can be placed on reserve: books, e-books, book chapters, case studies, periodical articles, videos, and scores. Placing materials on reserve ensures they are covered under fair use or cleared for copyright and meet accessibility standards.

Request Your E-Reserves

Request your course materials through the Course Reserves service in Canvas as soon as possible. The more lead time we have to prepare materials–e.g., license streaming video, scan physical material, and/or secure copyright permission–the better! For quick walk-throughs, view the Course Reserves Guide and the video “Getting Started with Leganto.”

Physical reserves are available at all library locations for material that is preferred in print or cannot be provided online. Please note that print book delivery may take up to 8 weeks.
