Faculty can request films to show classes via Course Reserves in Canvas using the manual request option for streaming video.
Upon completion of the form, The New School Libraries will endeavor to license the video for the class and place a link to the video in the Course Reserves page of the class. The turnaround time ranges from 1 day (for a film we have already licensed) to a few weeks or months (the time it takes to secure streaming rights from the distributor). If we are unable to license the film for your class, then we will work with you to find an alternative solution.
Want to see what's available now? Our video databases have films that are currently available in streaming format for The New School community. You can search our library catalog for film titles and then refine your 'Availability' to 'Online Access' and 'Resource Type' to 'Video.' For video art, we recently started subscribing to DIS.art.
Due to legal restrictions, The New School Libraries may not subscribe as an institution to commercial streaming services such as Amazon Prime, HBO, Hulu, Netflix, and Showtime; several services offer student discounts. Other services, such as MUBI, offer free or low-cost trials for individuals. Please note that The New School Libraries can only offer copyright guidance or technical support for films that faculty request through Course Reserves.
