The New School Libraries provide access to collections, services, and spaces sufficient in quality, depth, diversity, format, and currency to support the research and teaching missions of The New School. Together these collections, services, and spaces support The New School’s interdisciplinary approach to education and offer an excellent starting place for research.
Visit us onsite at the List Center Library, University Center Library, and Performing Arts Library, as well as at the Archives & Special Collections in the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center.
Collections
The specialized holdings of each collection include a wealth of books, journals, scores, sound and video recordings (feature films, television programs, and musical performances), archival materials, rare artist’s books, and visual images that are available to the university community (archival collections are also available to the general public).
All materials are discoverable online through the Library Catalog.
In the Library Catalog, offsite items can be requested. Offsite items are generally delivered in 48-72 hours. The New School Libraries subscribe to electronic databases that include such digital content as e-books, scholarly journals, newspapers, magazines, musical scores, sound and video recordings, and images.
Currently-enrolled students, faculty, and staff may access databases on-campus or off-campus signing into MyNewSchool.
Detailed guides to the archives’ collections can be found on the Archives & Special Collections page and digital materials from the archives can be accessed on the Digital Collections site.
