Biographical note

Adele Mowton DuBreuil (1898-1979), nee Adele Mowton, was born in Yonkers, New York, and attended the New York School of Fine and Applied Art (now, Parsons School of Design) between 19717-1919, receiving a diploma in advertising display in 1920. The program in which she was enrolled would be the equivalent of communication design in 2020. She lived in Scarsdale, New York with her husband, Stuart Carr DuBreuil, who was a banker. Adele became a master gardener, and supplemented her husband's income traveling the tri-state area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut) to present talks to garden clubs, gardening shows, and flower shows. She won several awards in local flower and garden shows, and contributed articles to local newspaper gardening columns and Popular Gardening magazine. Her backyard garden was featured in a spread in the July 13, 1962 issue of  Life magazine.
