- Consists of periodicals and serial publications produced by administrative offices, academic departments, and students of Parsons The New School for Design and The New School. Includes alumni publications dating from 1940 and student newspapers dating from 1957.
Scope and Contents note
Contains periodicals and serial publications produced by administrative offices and academic departments of Parsons The New School for Design and The New School, which Parsons has been affiliated with since 1970. Periodicals primarily represent the 1970s through 2008. While several titles span multiple decades, the majority represent short run and one-off publications.
The oldest periodicals here are Parsons School of Design Alumni Association publications, the first of which was published in newsletter format as the Alumni Bulletin in 1940. In 1961, the publication was retitled Alumni and published as a glossy magazine with varying frequency until 1969.
The series also includes a short-lived student newspaper, Portfolio, published by the Parsons Student Council from 1957 until 1959. Portfolio took its name from a student newspaper of the same title published during 1920s. The original Portfolio is not represented in the Kellen Design Archives collections. In 1960, publication of Portfolio was assumed by the Parsons administration, but discontinued after five issues. A student-run newspaper was established in 1976 as Parsonspaper. The Kellen Design Archives holds issues of Parsonspaper dating until 1990.
