- Consists of ephemera documenting events sponsored by Parsons The New School for Design's administrative offices and academic departments, including commencement ceremonies, dedications, exhibitions, lectures and symposia, open houses, and receptions. Examples of materials include announcements, fliers, invitations, and programs. The bulk of the materials dates from the 1950s to 2007.
Scope and Contents note
Contains printed materials produced for events sponsored by administrative offices and academic departments of Parsons The New School for Design. Events include public programs sponsored by the school in addition to programs offered to students, alumni/ae, and the New School University community of which Parsons is an affiliate.
Events covered in this series include, but are not limited to, awards ceremonies, dances, dedications, dinners and luncheons, exhibitions, fashion shows, lectures and symposia, memorial services, open houses, parties, and receptions. A subseries is comprised of materials produced for commencement ceremonies. Ephemeral materials include announcements, fliers, event calendars, invitations, memoranda, posters (mass-produced), and programs. Researchers may also encounter seating charts, transcripts of speeches, press materials, and clippings. For documentation on event planning and execution, it is recommended that records of the sponsoring department or office be consulted, in addition to materials in this series.
While the oldest item here is a program for a design-themed musical revue produced in 1926, the bulk of materials document events from the 1950s to 2007. The series is not comprehensive: not every event held at Parsons is represented here. There is little documentation of student-sponsored events.
