Scope and Contents of Collection
This collection consists of Jeanette Olliver's student work. Originally housed in a notebook, the materials span the years 1941 to 1943, and contain lecture notes, notes from field trips, and research. Lecture note topics include the interior decorating profession; architectural and interior decoration terminology and concerns; use of color, fabrics, and furniture; and the historical development of furniture styles. On her own or as a member of a class group, Olliver visited prominent museums, mansions, showrooms, and landmark buildings throughout New York City. Her notebook includes reports she made about architectural and furniture styles encountered, as well as the decorating principles they exemplify. The bulk of the collection consists of Olliver's student research material in the form of notes, clippings, and drawings. Of particular note are sketches and renderings by Olliver of architectural features, furniture details, window coverings, and doors.
