The New School Libraries & Archives offer a number of services to faculty and students to support their research and coursework.

Faculty may request materials to be placed on reserve for courses. Because of the nature of acquiring materials for course reserves, Librarians and Reserves staff need advance notice to make materials available to students. Reserve requests are handled on a first-come, first-served basis and may be delayed because of material availability.

Sign-up for an Event or Workshop offered by The New School Libraries and Archives throughout the year. Workshops are devoted to improving research skills and the use of online tools such as RefWorks. Advance registration is necessary.

Faculty may Request an Instruction session for their classes. Librarians and Archivists will prepare targeted or assignment-based library instructions to meet specific research or information needs. Sessions should be booked at least one week in advance.

Patrons are welcome to Ask Us for reference assistance online any time and to search The New School Libraries and Archives frequently asked questions. Submitted questions will be answered as soon as possible.

We provide in-person reference assistance during normal operating hours. Patrons are encouraged to Request a 1-on-1 Research Consultation with a Librarian or Archivist or view the Subject Liaison Directory and contact the Librarian or Archivist specializing in their subject area directly for an appointment.

The New School Libraries & Archives’ physical and digital collections are curated by the Subject Liaisons, a team of subject specialists--also called selectors--who make purchase decisions based on requests from students, faculty, and staff, course syllabi, and subject expertise. Patrons may contact selectors directly with recommendations or fill out the Request a Purchase form.  

Subject-specific and class-related Research Guides compiled by the Librarians and Archivists are available online to get started with research and promote relevant resources accessible to you through The New School Libraries & Archives.

New School faculty and students in degree programs may use NYU's Interlibrary Loan Service.
