Historical Note

The official name for the program in international affairs is the Julien J. Studley Graduate Program in International Affairs (SGPIA), Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy. As of 2014, this MA/MS program is situated within The New School for Public Engagement (NSPE), one of seven academic divisions of The New School.

According to its website, the Graduate Program in International Affairs (GPIA) was founded in 2001. In 2012 the program was named in honor of New School trustee and board chairman Julien J. Studley. In 2014, the Studley Graduate Program in International Affairs (SGPIA) is a multidisciplinary program with approximately 350 students from 62 countries. The program's more than 1,000 graduates work in international organizations, nongovernmental organizations, and government, in their own countries and in the United States.
