Loan Periods & Fines
Students, faculty, and staff must show a current valid University ID card to borrow materials or use other Consortium library materials. New School Archives and Kellen Design Archives collections are open to the public by appointment (access is not limited to the New School community and a university affiliation is not required).
Books and scores circulate for different time periods for different patron types.
Books generally circulate for 120 days to faculty and Ph.D. students, 60 days to master’s degree students and 28 days for all others. Overdue books and scores that have not been recalled accrue fines at the rate of $.25 per day.
Sound recordings generally circulate for 28 days to all patrons.
AV materials generally circulate for 7 days to all patrons. Patrons are limited to 4 AV items at one time.
Materials on reserve circulate for shorter time periods and accrue overdue fines at the rate of $1 per hour.
All library materials except reserve materials are subject to recall, which will shorten the loan period to no less than 2 weeks. Recalled materials must be returned by the new due date or a $1 per day fine will be assessed.
Materials that have not been recalled may be renewed online from your eshelf account http://eshelf.library.nyu.edu/ providing you do not have blocks on your library account due to excessive fines or lost books.
Use Ask-Us for any question relating to circulation policies or your library account.
Faculty members may designate student assistants to borrow library books on their behalf by submitting a proxy borrower form.
